Kashmir Economic Offences Wing Files Chargesheet in Massive Job Fraud Case

SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 28: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch Kashmir has formally submitted a comprehensive chargesheet before the Court of City Judge (Sub Registrar) Srinagar against an individual accused of orchestrating a large-scale employment racket.

The legal action follows the registration of FIR No. 49/2022 under Sections 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the RPC.

The case originated from a series of complaints filed by residents of the Tangmarg area, who alleged they were defrauded by Reyaz Ahmad Taploo, son of Mohammad Sidiq Taploo and resident of Soura, Srinagar. Taploo reportedly lured unsuspecting job seekers with false promises of high-profile security guard positions in reputable banks and hospitals, collecting several lakhs of rupees in the process.

To bolster the perceived legitimacy of his operation, the accused allegedly provided victims with counterfeit appointment orders and official uniform items. A meticulous investigation by the Economic Offences Wing revealed that Taploo was operating a fictitious entity named “SAI NGO Consultancy” as a front for his illegal activities.

Through this fake NGO, he systematically exploited unemployed youth by issuing forged documents and manufacturing false employment assurances. The investigation prima facie established that the accused engaged in deliberate acts of cheating and forgery, using fraudulent documents to exploit vulnerable individuals seeking livelihood. With the completion of all legal formalities and the gathering of substantial evidence, the EOW has moved the case to the competent court for judicial scrutiny and trial.

The Crime Branch Kashmir has reaffirmed its dedication to dismantling employment-related fraud networks across the region. Furthermore, the department issued a public advisory urging citizens to remain vigilant, warning them to verify the credentials of any recruiting agency and the authenticity of job offers before making any financial commitments.
