SRINAGAR 31 December :- A significant dip in minimum temperatures was recorded across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh today, with the famous ski resort of Gulmarg and the high-altitude region of Leh bearing the brunt of the winter chill. In the Kashmir Valley, Gulmarg plummeted to -3.0°C, marking one of the coldest spots in the region, while Pulwama and Shopian also recorded sub-zero temperatures at -0.2°C and -1.1°C, respectively.
The regional capital, Srinagar, stayed slightly above freezing at 2.3°C, with nearby Awantipora and Anantnag hovering close to the freezing point at 0.4°C and 0.7°C. Other key areas like Qazigund and Kokernag both settled at a chilly 1.4°C, reflecting a widespread cold wave throughout the valley.
In contrast, the Jammu region experienced relatively milder but still crisp conditions. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 10.4°C, while the holy town of Katra stayed nearly identical at 10.0°C. Reasi recorded the highest minimum in the region at 10.8°C, while Bhaderwah emerged as the coldest spot in Jammu at 4.0°C.
Other districts like Kathua, Samba, and Udhampur saw temperatures ranging between 6.7°C and 9.2°C. Meanwhile, in the Union Territory of Ladakh, Leh remains deep in the grip of winter, recording a frigid -6.0°C.
These fluctuating temperatures come amid a period of lingering fog and chilly winds, significantly impacting daily life and travel schedules across the mountainous terrain.
