JK Weather Update: Snowfall and Rain Disrupt Srinagar Flights and NH-44 Highway; Normalcy Expected by Evening

Srinagar, January 27, 2026: Persistent light to moderate snowfall continues to blanket the Kashmir region today, leading to significant travel disruptions, though an improvement in weather is anticipated by this evening.

According to the latest forecast from Kashmir Weather, temperatures in the plains are expected to rise slightly during the day, causing dry snow to turn into wet snow or rain in certain areas. Meanwhile, the Chenab Valley is bracing for moderate to heavy rain and snow showers, with conditions likely to stabilize late tonight.

Similar precipitation is expected across the Poonch-Rajouri belt and the Jammu plains, though rainfall in Jammu may remain intermittent throughout the afternoon. The inclement weather has brought air and surface transport to a virtual standstill.

Srinagar International Airport has seen a wave of flight cancellations, with authorities warning that further operations today appear unlikely. On the ground, the strategic Jammu–Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remains closed and is not expected to reopen until tomorrow, as persistent snow continues along the critical Banihal–Qazigund stretch.

Travelers are advised to avoid the highway and stay in close contact with airlines for the latest updates on flight rescheduling and alternate arrangements.
