JK Weather Update: Fresh Western Disturbance to Bring Snow and Rain from This Evening

Srinagar | January 26, 2026 — A fresh Western Disturbance is set to influence Jammu and Kashmir starting this evening, according to the latest insights from Kashmir Weather.

The weather system is expected to trigger a spell of light to heavy rain and snowfall across several parts of the region, with the most significant snow accumulations anticipated in the higher reaches.

While the system is not classified as an intense disturbance, it remains active enough to deliver moderate to locally heavy snowfall at higher elevations. In the plains, the arrival of precipitation during the night hours keeps the possibility of snowfall alive; however, forecasters indicate a low probability of significant accumulation in these lower-lying areas. Current estimates place the chance of snowfall in the plains at approximately 50%, with the likelihood of “decent” accumulation sitting between 30% and 40%.

The nature of the snow will play a crucial role in accumulation. Experts suggest that “dry snow” has a 30–40% probability in north and central Kashmir plains. Conversely, areas closer to the Pir Panjal range, such as Shopian and Kulgam, face a higher 60–70% chance of receiving dry snow and better accumulations.

Additionally, the Chenab Valley, Poonch district, and the Qazigund–Banihal stretch are also likely to see snowfall, while remaining areas should prepare for a spell of rain. While some locations may experience gusty winds, prolonged or severe wind conditions are not expected with this specific system.
