J&K Weather Update: Dry Spell to Persist Through February Amid Significant Rainfall Deficit

SRINAGAR, Feb 19, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MET) has forecasted a predominantly dry weather pattern for Jammu and Kashmir through the end of February, highlighting a concerning precipitation shortfall across the Union Territory.

Current data reveals a 56% rainfall deficit in the Kashmir Division and a 35% deficit in the Jammu Division, with no major rain or snow predicted for the remainder of the month. While conditions are expected to remain generally dry between February 19 and 25, a shift to partly cloudy skies is anticipated on February 26, followed by isolated light rain or snow on February 27 and 28.

This trend is likely to carry into the first week of March, with similar isolated precipitation expected between March 2 and 3 before clearing up by March 4.In light of these conditions, the MET department has issued an advisory for the agricultural sector, encouraging farmers to proceed with routine farm operations. Additionally, residents should prepare for a gradual rise in both minimum and maximum temperatures across most locations over the next seven days.

This warming trend, coupled with the ongoing dry spell, underscores the unseasonably parched conditions currently affecting the region’s ecological and agricultural landscape.
