J&K Weather Update: Dry Spell to End as Light Rain and Snow Forecasted for Next Week

SRINAGAR | March 05, 2026 — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) at the Meteorological Centre Rambagh has issued a comprehensive weather update indicating a significant shift in climatic conditions across Jammu & Kashmir over the coming days.

Following a period of unseasonably high temperatures, where the Kashmir Division saw maximums 7–9°C above normal and the Jammu Division recorded highs 6–11°C above average, the region is bracing for a transition from its current dry state. Notable high temperatures were recorded at Muzaffarabad (27.0°C), Srinagar (20.5°C), Jammu (30.3°C), and a peak of 35.5°C in Mirpur, while the lowest minimum was observed in Pahalgam at 2.2°C.

Despite these warm days, the 24-hour rainfall and snow depth remained at 0.0 across all stations, including Qazigund, Kupwara, Kukernag, Gulmarg, Konibal, Banihal, Batote, Katra, Bhadarwah, and Kathua.

The forecast for the immediate 24 to 48 hours remains generally dry across the Union Territory, but a change in the atmospheric pattern is expected starting March 7th. From March 7th to 9th, the weather is predicted to be generally cloudy with isolated light rain or snow in the higher reaches of the Kashmir Division.

This activity is expected to become more widespread between March 10th and 11th, with scattered light rain and snow forecasted for various locations. Data from Automatic Weather Stations (AWS) in Awantipur, Udhampur, Ramban, Samba, Budgam, Rajouri, Poonch, Anantnag, Baramulla, Bandipora, Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Ganderbal, Sonamarg, Kishtwar, Reasi, and Doda currently show dry conditions, but residents in these districts should prepare for the upcoming shift.

Following this brief wet spell, the outlook from March 12th to 15th suggests a return to generally dry weather, followed by generally cloudy conditions on March 16th and 17th.
