SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 27, 2025: Residents and tourists in Jammu & Kashmir can expect a significant shift in weather patterns as the year draws to a close.
According to the latest update from the MET Centre Srinagar, the prevailing dry spell is set to break with a prediction of light rain and snow across scattered locations starting December 30.
The weather activity is expected to intensify between December 31 and January 1, bringing a high possibility of widespread precipitation. Notably, the middle and higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir may receive moderate snowfall, potentially creating a picturesque “White New Year” for those in higher altitudes.
As the system moves through, January 2 will remain partly to generally cloudy with light rain or snow at isolated spots, followed by a period of relatively stable and partly cloudy weather from January 3 to January 7.
By January 8 and 9, the region is expected to return to generally cloudy conditions. This transition marks a welcome change for the region’s ecology and tourism sector, though it brings renewed challenges for logistics and road safety during the peak winter season.
Safety Advisory and Travel Warnings:- In light of the changing conditions, the Meteorological Department has issued a dual advisory for residents and visitors:
Fog Warning: Travelers in the Jammu Division are cautioned against moderate to dense fog over isolated pockets during the next 48 hours, which may significantly reduce visibility on highways.
Commuter Alert: Transporters and travelers are strongly advised to adhere strictly to traffic and administrative advisories, especially when navigating mountain passes or the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, where snow and rain can lead to slippery road conditions.
