J&K Weather Forecast: Heavy Snowfall Warning for South Kashmir and Chenab Valley; Travel Advisory Issued
SRINAGAR – January 17, 2026: The Meteorological Department has predicted an active week of winter weather across Jammu and Kashmir, with a series of weather systems expected to bring significant precipitation to the region.
For January 17th and 18th, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy with light snow likely at isolated higher reaches. The intensity will increase from January 19th to 20th, as scattered to fairly widespread areas can expect light to moderate rain and snow.
Following a brief lull on January 21st, a major wet spell is anticipated between January 22nd and 25th, as a strong weather system is set to bring moderate rain and snow to most parts of the Union Territory.
Authorities have issued a specific weather advisory for January 23rd and 24th, warning of heavy rain and snowfall in certain districts. The Pir-Panjal range, the Chenab Valley, and various districts of South Kashmir are at high risk of heavy accumulation.
The advisory also cautions against gusty winds and potential landslides in vulnerable mountainous areas. In light of these conditions, travelers are strongly urged to plan their journeys carefully and strictly follow traffic and administrative updates.
Additionally, farmers are advised to suspend all agricultural and farm operations during this period to prevent losses due to the inclement weather.
