J&K Weather Forecast: Dry Spell to End as Rain and Snow Predicted from January 20; Fog Alert for Jammu

SRINAGAR,January 12, 2026 — The Meteorological (MeT) Centre Srinagar has issued a comprehensive weather outlook for the next two weeks, predicting a significant shift from the current dry spell to more active winter conditions across Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the forecast, the region will remain mainly dry until January 15, though cloud cover is expected to increase by Thursday evening. A minor disturbance on January 16 and 17 is likely to bring light rain or snow to isolated and scattered higher reaches of the Kashmir division, followed by similar light activity in high-altitude areas through January 19.

However, the most substantial weather change is anticipated between January 20 and 22, when light to moderate rain and snow are expected at scattered to fairly widespread locations across the Union Territory.

In addition to the precipitation forecast, the MeT department has issued a specific advisory regarding visibility and temperature trends. Residents can expect a gradual rise in minimum temperatures across many places, providing some relief from the recent extreme sub-zero readings.

However, travelers and residents in the Jammu division are urged to remain cautious, as moderate fog is predicted to persist over the plains for the next five days, with dense fog likely at isolated spots. As the weather transitions from a dry phase toward more widespread activity by January 23 and 24, the department advises the public to stay informed of further updates, particularly those living in snow-bound higher reaches.
