J&K Weather Alert: Heavy Snow and Rain Forecast for Jan 26-27; MeT Issues Vital Advisory
Srinagar | January 25, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre (MeT) Srinagar has issued a fresh weather update for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a significant shift in conditions starting late tomorrow.
While today, January 25, is expected to see only light rain or snow at isolated locations, a more active Western Disturbance is set to impact the region from the evening of January 26 through January 27.
According to the forecast, most parts of the Union Territory will experience light to moderate rain and snow, with the high possibility of moderate to heavy falls accompanied by thunder and gusty winds in certain areas during the peak of the system.
Following the intense spell, the weather is expected to improve slightly on January 28, with only light precipitation at a few places. A relatively stable period is forecast for January 29 and 30 under partly cloudy skies.
However, another brief disturbance may bring scattered light rain or snow between January 31 and February 1, before returning to partly cloudy conditions by February 2 and 3.
Official Safety Advisory:- In light of the predicted heavy snowfall and gusty winds between the night of January 26 and the evening of January 27, the MeT department has issued the following safety guidelines:
Travelers & Transporters: Commuters are strongly advised to verify the status of major highways and arterial roads with concerned traffic units before starting their journey.
Agricultural Warning: Farmers across the region are advised to suspend all farm operations and field activities until January 28 to avoid losses.
Avalanche Alert: Residents in snow-bound higher reaches and mountainous areas are urged to stay away from sloppy and avalanche-prone zones to prevent mishaps.
