SRINAGAR, Jan 20, 2026 — The Jammu and Kashmir Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather advisory forecasting two consecutive “wet spells” that are expected to disrupt normal life across the Union Territory.
According to the latest update, a weather system active from January 22 to 24 will likely bring light to moderate rain and snow to most regions, with heavy snowfall anticipated in South Kashmir and districts along the Pir Panjal range during the night of January 22 and throughout January 23.
This will be followed by a second, more intense moderate wet spell scheduled for January 26 and 27, which is expected to trigger heavy precipitation across several districts in both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions.In light of the predicted heavy rain and snow, authorities have issued a stern warning regarding the high possibility of landslides and gusty winds in vulnerable areas, particularly along major highways.
Residents and travelers are advised to exercise extreme caution, while farmers are specifically urged to suspend all farm operations to avoid losses during these intervals. All stakeholders and commuters have been advised to monitor weather updates closely and plan their activities and travel schedules accordingly to ensure safety and convenience throughout the final week of January.
