J&K Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Snow Forecasted Through April 10; Advisory Issued for Farmers and Travelers

SRINAGAR | April 7, 2026The Meteorological Centre (MET) in Srinagar has issued a weather update indicating that erratic weather patterns will persist across Jammu and Kashmir until April 10.

For the period of April 7–8, residents should expect generally cloudy skies with intermittent light to moderate rain and snow in higher reaches across most locations.

The disturbance is expected to be most active from today forenoon through tomorrow evening, with the potential for thunder, hail, and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph at isolated spots.

Forecasters have specifically highlighted that moderate to heavy rain, along with light to moderate snow over the mountains, is likely to occur from tonight through tomorrow morning in several areas of both the Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

As the system begins to weaken, April 9 and 10 will see a transition to brief spells of light rain or thundershowers at scattered places, primarily during the afternoon hours. Looking further ahead from April 11 to April 16, the weather is expected to remain generally dry, though isolated brief spells of light afternoon rain cannot be entirely ruled out.

In light of these conditions, authorities have issued a significant advisory to ensure public safety. Intense heavy showers over short durations may trigger flash floods or landslides in vulnerable hilly terrains and cause waterlogging in low-lying urban areas.

Farmers are strongly urged to suspend all agricultural operations until the weather stabilizes. Additionally, travelers and commuters are advised to plan their journeys with caution and strictly follow the latest traffic and administrative updates to avoid being stranded by unpredictable road conditions.
