J&K Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Snow Forecasted for South Kashmir and Chenab Valley

Srinagar | January 16, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather advisory warning of heavy rain and snowfall across several districts of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the latest forecast, atmospheric conditions indicate a high possibility of intense precipitation over the Chenab Valley, the Pir-Panjal range, and various districts in South Kashmir.

Authorities have urged residents and travelers in these high-altitude and peripheral areas to plan their movements with caution, as the inclement weather is expected to disrupt normal life and transport services.

In addition to the snow and rain, the MeT department has highlighted a significant threat of landslides at vulnerable locations, particularly along major highways and hilly terrains. The advisory warns that loosened soil and heavy moisture could trigger road blockages, making travel hazardous in the coming days.

Furthermore, the agricultural sector has been specifically cautioned to mitigate potential losses. Farmers are advised to suspend all farm operations, including pruning, spraying, and harvesting, until weather conditions stabilize.

The Meteorological Centre emphasized that the combination of freezing temperatures and heavy moisture could damage standing crops or recently treated orchards.

Residents are encouraged to stay updated with regular weather bulletins and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during this period of extreme weather.
