JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Feb 11, 2026 — The Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu & Kashmir, has issued a comprehensive travel advisory for February 12, 2026, following reports of slow vehicle movement and infrastructure damage on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44).
Due to a 20–30 meter stretch of road sinking at Kishtwari Pather, traffic is currently limited to a single lane. Consequently, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) are only permitted to ply on alternate days to prevent total congestion. Commuters are strictly advised to follow lane discipline, as overtaking or wrong-lane driving in these narrow sections could lead to severe traffic jams.
For tomorrow, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and private cars will be allowed to move from both sides—Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa—subject to fair weather. However, HMVs will only be allowed to move from Jakheni (Udhampur) toward Srinagar after a situational assessment, with a strict cutoff time of 2:00 PM.
Authorities strongly advise passengers to travel during daytime only, citing the high risk of shooting stones and landslides between Ramban and Banihal. Additionally, commuters should be aware of slippery road conditions caused by frost formation between Nachlana and the Navyug Tunnel.
Regarding other major routes, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) Road will be open only for LMVs equipped with anti-skid chains traveling from Srinagar toward Kargil, provided road maintenance agencies give the green signal.
No vehicles will be allowed on the Zoji La axis after 3:00 PM due to avalanche threats. Meanwhile, both the Mughal Road and the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road (NH-244) remain closed for all vehicular movement due to heavy snow accumulation. Travelers are urged to verify the latest road status with Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Jammu, Srinagar, or Ramban before starting their journey.
