J&K Traffic Advisory: NH-44 Open for LMVs Amid Single-Lane Constraints; Mughal Road and Sinthan Top Remain Closed

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Feb 19, 2026 – The Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu & Kashmir, has issued a comprehensive travel advisory for February 20, 2026, confirming that while the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remains open for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) from both sides, significant bottlenecks persist.

Due to road sinking at Kishtwari Pather and a narrow single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) will operate on an alternate-day basis, with Udhampur-to-Srinagar movement allowed only until 14:00 hrs subject to road conditions.

Commuters are strongly advised to travel during daylight hours to avoid the heightened risk of shooting stones and landslides between Ramban and Banihal, where ongoing construction continues. Meanwhile, the SSG Road is open only for LMVs equipped with anti-skid chains moving from Srinagar toward Kargil, pending avalanche clearance at Zoji La, whereas the Mughal Road and Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 remain strictly closed due to heavy snow accumulation.
