J&K Traffic Advisory: Mughal Road and SSG Road Open for Limited Travel while Kishtwar-Sinthan Road Remains Closed

SRINAGAR, January 17, 2026 — The Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police today issued a fresh advisory regarding the status of key mountain passes connecting various regions of the Union Territory. Mughal Road, which links the Poonch and Rajouri districts with the Kashmir Valley, is currently open for Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and private cars, provided they are equipped with anti-skid chains.

Movement is subject to fair weather and a “green signal” from GREF, with specific timings allowed between 10:30 AM and 2:30 PM from both Chandimarh (Bafliaz) and Herpora (Shopian). Commuters are warned that no vehicles will be permitted beyond these cutoff times due to slippery conditions at higher altitudes like Pir Ki Gali.In a similar update, the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road has been cleared for one-way traffic from Kargil toward Srinagar.

After receiving clearance from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), LMVs and small heavy vehicles (up to six tyres) fitted with anti-skid chains are permitted to move from Minamarg between 11:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Meanwhile, the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road (NH-244) remains strictly closed for all vehicular movement. Authorities cited heavy fresh snow accumulation at Sinthan Top as the primary reason for the continued closure, advising travelers to verify the latest status with Traffic Control Units before beginning any journey.
