J&K Police Cracks Down on Illegal Mining: Heavy Machinery Seized and Case Registered in Awantipora

AWANTIPORA, March 31, 2026 — Intensifying its crackdown on the unauthorized extraction of minerals, the Jammu and Kashmir Police successfully seized a heavy-duty Larsen & Toubro (L&T) excavator involved in illegal mining activities at Green Land Woyen, Awantipora.

The operation was carried out during routine patrolling by a dedicated team from the Khrew Police Station, led by the SHO, who intercepted the machinery while it was actively engaged in unlawful excavation.

Following the seizure, authorities registered a formal case under FIR No. 25/2026 at Police Station Khrew, invoking relevant legal sections to initiate a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

This latest enforcement action underscores the J&K Police’s unwavering commitment to protecting natural resources and maintaining environmental regulations, while officials continue to urge the general public to support law enforcement by reporting any suspicious or illegal mining activities within their local communities.
