J&K Police Arrest Five Drug Peddlers in Sopore and Kulgam Narcotics Crackdown
NORTH KASHMIR/KULGAM, JANUARY 11, 2026 — As part of a continuous campaign to eradicate the drug menace, the Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested five drug peddlers in separate operations across Sopore and Kulgam, recovering a variety of contraband substances.
In Sopore, officers from the Bomai and Warpora police posts intercepted individuals during specialized checkpoints at Nathipora–Tujjer road and Dangerpora Road.
Those apprehended were identified as Umar Mohammad, found with a charas-like substance; Majid Ashraf Khan and Musadiq Mehraj, who were in possession of Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus capsules; and Nasir Yousuf Shah, caught with heroin and Alprazolam tablets during routine patrolling at Neharpora Crossing.Simultaneously, in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, the Qazigund police apprehended Azad Ahmad Naikoo near the Nassu Badragund railway bridge after he attempted to flee from a patrol party.
A search of his person led to the recovery of 8 grams of a substance suspected to be Brown Sugar. All five accused individuals have been taken into custody and shifted to their respective police stations, where formal cases under the relevant sections of the law have been registered.
Investigations are currently underway to map the source of these drugs and dismantle the wider distribution networks involved. The J&K Police reaffirmed their zero-tolerance stance against narcotics, pledging to protect the region’s youth through relentless enforcement and preventive measures.
