J&K Legislative Assembly Concludes 2026 Budget Session; Speaker Highlights Key Legislative Milestones

JAMMU, April 04, 2026: Speaker of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Abdul Rahim Rather, formally detailed the legislative accomplishments of the Budget Session 2026, highlighting a highly productive period that spanned 22 sittings and consumed over 110 hours of floor time.

During the session, the House demonstrated significant legislative momentum, successfully passing eight Government bills and processing an extensive volume of parliamentary business, including the laying of 25 papers and one ordinance.

The Speaker noted that private members were also active, with 39 new bills received alongside 36 pending ones; of these, 36 were admitted, 72 were listed for consideration, and two were officially introduced.

The session also saw rigorous government oversight through a high volume of inquiries and motions. Speaker Rather informed the House that a total of 1,528 Administrative Questions (AQs) were received, comprising both starred and un-starred queries, with 331 supplementary questions raised by members to seek deeper clarity on public issues.

Additionally, the assembly addressed 47 admitted Calling Attention notices and discussed two short-duration notices. While 128 resolutions were submitted and 101 admitted, none were ultimately adopted during this session.

The fiscal scrutiny was particularly intense, as evidenced by the 2,231 cut motions received, of which 2,059 were allowed, reflecting the House’s detailed engagement with the Union Territory’s budgetary allocations and departmental expenditures.
