J&K Government Suspends Five Engineers Over Snow Clearance Negligence and Unauthorized Absence

Srinagar, January 27, 2026: Following a high-level review of winter preparedness and road connectivity, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir’s Public Works (R&B) Department has ordered the immediate suspension of five engineers for dereliction of duty and unauthorized absence.

The disciplinary action was initiated after the Deputy Chief Minister’s visit to the Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC) on January 25 revealed that Er. Sandeep Vaishnavi, an Assistant Engineer in the Machinery Division, was absent without leave.

Simultaneously, widespread public grievances from regions including Shopian, Anantnag, and Tangmarg highlighted a significant failure in snow clearance operations, which led to the disruption of essential services and local road connectivity.

Consequently, the department has placed AEE Er. Noor Din (Zainpora), AEE Er. Shabir Ahmad Ganie (Tangmarg), AE Er. Nasir (Anantnag), AE Er. Sandeep Vaishnavi (Srinagar), and JE Er. Ramiz (Zainpora/Imamsahib) under suspension, pending further departmental proceedings.

The Chief Engineers of South Kashmir and M&HD Kashmir have been directed to reassign their duties and provide immediate inputs to finalize the administrative action.
