J&K Fire and Emergency Services Save Property Worth ₹5000 Crore as Incidents Drop by 25% in 2025
Jammu December 31, 2025:- The Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES) of Jammu and Kashmir reported a landmark year in 2025, marked by a significant 25 percent reduction in fire incidents across the Union Territory. Throughout the year, the department responded to over 6,000 emergency calls, utilizing a fleet of 322 fire tenders and more than 2,100 personnel.
These rapid response operations were instrumental in saving property estimated at ₹5000 crore, while losses were successfully contained to approximately ₹300 crore. This decline from 8,033 incidents in 2024 to 6,039 in 2025 highlights the success of the department’s transition toward a prevention-oriented strategy.
Central to this success has been a massive public outreach campaign spearheaded by Director Fire and Emergency Services, Alok Kumar. Under the “Har Ghar Fire Fighter” initiative, the department conducted nearly 10,000 awareness programs, reaching over 10.3 million participants including students, healthcare workers, and the general public.
These sessions focused on essential life safety skills and initial emergency response, aiming to empower at least one person in every household to act as a first responder. Furthermore, the department strengthened institutional safety by conducting 3,728 fire safety audits in hospitals, hotels, and government buildings to ensure compliance with modern safety standards.
The department’s impact extended beyond fire suppression to critical disaster management and humanitarian aid. In 2025, F&ES teams led vital rescue and dewatering operations during floods in Srinagar and Anantnag and provided comprehensive safety cover for the Shri Amarnathji Yatra by establishing 30 temporary fire stations.
Additionally, the department bolstered its operational capacity by launching a new Fire Training Centre at Bari Brahmana, ensuring that personnel remain at the cutting edge of emergency tactics. By integrating community training with advanced professional response, the department has reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient and fire-safe culture across Jammu and Kashmir.
