J&K Education Sector Update: Government Prioritizes Resource Optimization and Enrollment Growth for Academic Excellence

JAMMU, February 04, 2026 — Minister for Education, Sakeena Itoo, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to elevating academic standards across Jammu and Kashmir by prioritizing the enhancement of student enrollment and the strategic utilization of existing institutional resources.

While responding to a query by Legislator Nizam-ud-Din Bhat concerning H.K. Government Degree College (GDC) Bandipora, the Minister detailed a robust infrastructure roadmap, noting that the college currently utilizes a Science-cum-Administrative Block with modern laboratories, a 12-room lecture hall, and pre-fabricated huts for academic activities.

She further highlighted ongoing projects, including a girls’ hostel, a Skill Centre, and a Medication and Yoga Centre, while confirming that the tendering process for a new playground is underway.

Addressing the demand for a separate women’s degree college in Bandipora, the Minister clarified that the administration is focused on consolidating resources to prevent the fragmentation of student numbers, asserting that strengthening the existing co-educational framework is the most viable path to ensuring high-quality education and optimal facility usage at this stage.
