J&K Deputy CM Surinder Choudhary Advocates for Simplified Rules to Boost Workers’ Welfare
JAMMU | February 20, 2026 :- In a significant move to streamline the support system for the labor force, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today called for a major simplification of rules to ensure the hassle-free disbursement of benefits to workers across Jammu and Kashmir. Chairing a high-level meeting at the Civil Secretariat with representatives of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that government initiatives must reach the grassroots level without being hindered by complex bureaucratic norms. Alongside MLA Kulgam Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami and senior labor officials, Choudhary directed the administration to expedite pending cases involving death compensation, marriage assistance, and wage disputes. He stressed that the primary goal is to safeguard the interests of workers and their families through a more accessible and empathetic administrative framework.
During the deliberations, the Deputy Chief Minister underscored the vital role of trade unions as transparent bridges between the workforce and the government. He urged Assistant Labour Commissioners (ALCs) to prioritize the prompt and amicable redressal of grievances, ensuring that registered workers face no delays in receiving their rightful dues. The meeting also addressed specific demands raised by union representatives, including pension and housing loan schemes, and amendments to the constitution of the Kashmir Constructional Workers Union. Reaffirming the government’s commitment to socio-economic upliftment, Choudhary assured that all genuine concerns would be examined with a sympathetic lens to create a robust and inclusive welfare environment for the labor community in the Union Territory.
