J&K Cabinet to Consider Assembly Session Prior to October 28 Deadline
Srinagar 22 September :- Jammu and Kashmir cabinet, headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, will meet at 10:00 AM on Tuesday to consider some important proposals with the main agenda of suggesting a date to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for holding the pivotal autumn session of the Legislative Assembly.
This session is necessitated by a constitutional mandate specified in the Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. The Act specifically states that no interval of more than six months shall be allowed between the adjournment of the last sitting of one session and the first sitting of the next.Since the last session ended on April 29, 2024, the government is obligated by law to make the new session start on or before October 28, 2024, to comply with the statutory provision.
When called into being, the session is expected to be charged, with arguments for the revival of full statehood and controversial reservation policies set to run through the agendas. In addition, the recent arrest of MLA Doda Mehraj Malik will also likely be brought up, providing yet another sphere of discussion in what is shaping up to be a keenly observed assembly session.
