J&K Budget Session: Government Adopting Phased Approach to Ensure All-Weather Road Connectivity, Says Deputy CM
JAMMU, Feb 05, 2026 – Underscoring the government’s priority to enhance regional integration, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today affirmed the administration’s commitment to connecting every habitation in Jammu and Kashmir with a robust road network.
Responding to a query by legislator Javid Hassan Baig in the Legislative Assembly, the Deputy CM detailed a structured, phased development strategy guided by the J&K Road Policy-2021. He explained that infrastructure projects are being executed through a combination of flagship initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Central Road and Infrastructure Fund (CRIF), NABARD (RIDF), and the UT Capex budget, all aimed at delivering safe and durable all-weather connectivity.
The Deputy Chief Minister emphasized that all roadworks now adhere strictly to Indian Roads Congress (IRC) standards, incorporating essential safety features such as crash barriers, proper signage, and the systematic identification of accident-prone “black spots.”
To ensure these projects meet high technical benchmarks, the Directorate of Investigation & Quality Control (DIQC) wing of the Public Works (R&B) Department has been mandated with rigorous technical vetting and quality assurance.
This oversight is designed to guarantee that infrastructure in remote and hilly terrains remains reliable in all seasons, thereby fostering equitable economic development and social inclusion across the Union Territory.
