JAMMU, FEBRUARY 07, 2026: During the ongoing Budget Session, several Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) brought urgent public grievances to the floor of the House, demanding immediate administrative intervention to resolve issues ranging from infrastructure gaps to localized economic distress.
MLA Gurez, Nazir Ahmad Khan, highlighted a critical administrative vacuum in his constituency, reporting that the absence of Patwaris in the field has crippled the issuance of essential documents like income certificates and land records (Fards).
Highlighting the unique seasonal challenges of the region, Khan urged the government to postpone the ongoing digitization of revenue records until the end of April, as over half of the Gurez population migrates during the harsh winter months, making the current verification process inaccessible for many.
The House also witnessed strong advocacy for the vulnerable labor sectors and essential utility restoration. MLA Baldev Raj Sharma, representing the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi constituency, pushed for a comprehensive rehabilitation package for Pithuwalas and mule laborers, whose livelihoods depend entirely on pilgrimage activities and who are currently facing severe economic hardships.
Meanwhile, MLA Beerwah, Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani, raised an alarm over the disruption of drinking water in Magam and its surrounding areas, demanding the immediate restoration of basic civic facilities.
Additionally, the administrative hurdles in border regions were underscored by MLA Karnah, Javaid Mirchal, who called for the urgent filling of the vacant Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) post in Karnah to ensure that governance and essential public services are not hindered by leadership vacancies.
