J&K Assembly Zero Hour: Legislators Demand Action on MGNREGA Wages, Loan Waivers, and Infrastructure Delays

JAMMU, April 02, 2026:-The Zero Hour in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly today turned into a platform for intense deliberation as Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) across the political spectrum raised a multitude of public interest issues, demanding immediate government intervention.

Highlighting labor concerns, MLA Payare Lal Sharma and MLA Ajaz Ahmad Jan pushed for the release of pending MGNREGA wages and salary hikes for CAMPA workers, while MLA Showkat Hussain Ganie and MLA Arvind Gupta called for regularization policies for Khidmat Centre operators and medical college employees.

The agricultural sector also saw strong advocacy, with Hasnain Masoodi and Peerzada Feroz Ahmed demanding KCC loan waivers for flood-hit farmers, and others like MLA Abdul Majid Bhat seeking urgent compensation for orchardists in Qazigund.Infrastructure and regional development remained a top priority during the session.

Legislative members, including MLA Shagun Parihar, MLA Rafiq Ahmad Naik, and MLA Dr. Shafi Ahmad Wani, pressed for the completion of long-stalled projects such as the Sattar Bridge, the Tral Fruit Mandi, and JVC Hospital. Concerns regarding nomadic communities were voiced by MLAs Khurshied Ahmad and Choudhary Zafar Ali Khatana, who sought smoother seasonal migration processes.

Additionally, administrative efficiency was a recurring theme; MLA Tanvir Sadiq demanded a one-week deadline for domicile certificates, while MLA Saif-ud-Din Bhat and MLA Mir Mohammad Fayaz emphasized the urgent need to fill vacant departmental posts to prevent developmental stagnation.

The session concluded with a collective call for the government to ensure that welfare schemes are implemented in close consultation with local representatives to better serve the people of the Union Territory.
