J&K Anti-Corruption Bureau Files Charge-Sheet Against Naib Tehsildar and Patwari in Uri Bribery Case
BARAMULLA, April 03, 2026 — The Jammu & Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has officially presented a charge-sheet before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Baramulla, against two public servants involved in a high-profile bribery trap.
The accused, Altaf Hussain Khan, former Naib Tehsildar of Uri, and Pardeep Kumar, Patwari Halqa Uri, were implicated following a complaint filed by a local resident in September 2023. According to the investigation, the officials allegedly demanded a staggering bribe of ₹10 lakh—later negotiated down to ₹1 lakh—in exchange for processing revenue documents related to a land dispute.
Acting on the complaint, ACB Baramulla successfully laid a trap where Altaf Hussain Khan was caught red-handed accepting an initial payment of ₹50,000, leading to his immediate arrest and the recovery of the tainted currency.
Following a comprehensive investigation that prima facie established the roles of both the Naib Tehsildar and the Patwari, the ACB secured the necessary prosecution sanctions from the Government of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.
The charge-sheet, filed under Sections 7 and 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act along with Section 61 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), marks a significant step in the judicial process with the court fixing May 2, 2026, as the next date of hearing.
This filing represents the seventh major charge-sheet produced by the ACB Baramulla unit in 2026, underscoring a rigorous and ongoing crackdown on administrative corruption within the region to ensure transparency and accountability in public service.
