SRINAGAR, February 13, 2026 — The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir has arrested Mukhtar Ahmad Khan, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) posted at Police Station Bemina, Srinagar, for demanding and accepting a bribe. The official, a resident of Newa Pulwama, was caught red-handed during a meticulously planned sting operation.
The arrest followed a formal complaint alleging that Khan, acting as the Investigating Officer (IO) for a previously registered case (FIR No. 88/2025), demanded illegal gratification from the complainant. Despite the case already being submitted to the competent court, the ASI reportedly threatened to harass the individual if the payment was not made. After a discreet verification confirmed the validity of these claims, the ACB registered Case FIR No. 04/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
During the subsequent investigation, a specialized trap team was formed to apprehend the officer. Khan was caught in the act of accepting ₹8,000 from the complainant. ACB officials recovered the bribe money on the spot in the presence of independent witnesses and immediately took the ASI into custody. Authorities have confirmed that further investigation into the matter is currently underway to ensure all legal formalities are completed.
