UDHAMPUR, JANUARY 07, 2026: The high-level House Committee, established to investigate alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), conducted a rigorous on-the-spot inspection across Udhampur district today.
Led by Chairman Justice Hasnain Masoodi, the committee visited several project sites—including Tikri Dhanu, Seen Brahmana, Bedian, and Johnu—to verify the factual status of water infrastructure and address growing public concerns regarding the mission’s execution in Jammu and Kashmir.
Accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary Shaleen Kabra, Mission Director JJM, and Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, the committee scrutinized critical technical aspects of the schemes. The investigation focused on the quality of pipeline laying, the functionality of filtration plants, and the actual reach of Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs).
During an interactive session at the Dak Bungalow, local residents and former PRI members flagged serious grievances, including non-functional reservoirs, pipeline leakages, and incomplete works, suggesting that many households remain without the promised potable water despite ongoing projects.
Addressing the media, Justice Masoodi emphasized that the primary objective of this field visit is to identify bottlenecks and fix responsibility for any administrative or technical lapses. While Jal Shakti Department officials cited land disputes and funding constraints as reasons for delays, the committee maintained that a thorough verification is essential to ensure transparency.
This inspection marks a critical step in the government’s effort to audit the multi-crore rural water project and ensure that the “Har Ghar Jal” objective is met with high engineering and ethical standards.
