Jammu University Literary-Cultural Conclave: LG Manoj Sinha Urges Preservation of Regional Heritage

JAMMU, March 13: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated a two-day literary-cultural conclave, “Sahitya Sanskriti Samagam,” at the University of Jammu on Friday, calling upon artists and scholars to safeguard the region’s rich ancestral legacy.

Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the traditions of Jammu in literature and spirituality provide a foundation for rising above divisions of caste and creed, fostering an ideology that prioritizes universal humanity.

He underscored that a region’s true identity is not measured solely by economic milestones but is vibrantly expressed through its stories, songs, and the unique craftsmanship of its artisans.

The Lieutenant Governor highlighted the vital role of folk arts and literature as the “living vitality” of Jammu, noting that these traditions thrive not in libraries, but through the active creativity of writers, singers, and artists.

He urged the younger generation to recognize their duty in preserving this cultural bequest, stating that safeguarding local languages and nurturing regional art forms is essential for maintaining collective memory and building communal self-assurance.

By focusing on local dialects and tales, he noted, cultural heritage transcends the past to become a dynamic, living dialogue between generations.During the event, which featured cultural processions and exhibitions of indigenous handicrafts and traditional cuisines, the first edition of the university’s multilingual magazine, The Litzine, was released.

The Lieutenant Governor commended the University of Jammu for its dedication to promoting the region’s cultural ethos while maintaining its status among the nation’s top academic institutions.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Vice Chancellor Umesh Rai, alongside other prominent academic leaders, senior journalists, and students, all gathered to celebrate the “confluence of culture” intended to infuse new resonance into the soul of society.
