JAMMU/SRINAGAR, FEB 8, 2026 — The Traffic Police Headquarters has issued a comprehensive travel plan for February 9, 2026, following reports of slow vehicle movement on NH-44 due to single-lane stretches at Kishtwari Pather and Marog caused by road sinking and frequent HMV breakdowns.
Subject to fair weather, Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and private cars will be permitted to ply from both Jammu and Srinagar, though commuters are strongly urged to travel during the day to avoid the high risk of shooting stones, landslides, and slippery road conditions caused by frost between Nachlana and the Navyug Tunnel.
For Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), traffic will be strictly regulated on an alternate-day basis, with movement allowed only from the Navyug Tunnel (Qazigund side) towards Jammu after 1600 hours, provided road conditions remain stable. Meanwhile, the Mughal Road and Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244 remain closed due to heavy snow, and the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) road status awaits an avalanche clearance green signal.
Commuters and operators of perishable goods are advised to maintain strict lane discipline and verify road status via the following Traffic Control Unit (TCU) numbers: Jammu (0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, 103), Srinagar (0194-2450022, 2485396, 18001807091, 103), Ramban (9419993745, 1800-180-7043), Udhampur (8491928625), PCR Kishtwar (9906154100), and PCR Kargil (9541902330, 9541902331).
