Jammu Rural Police Seize Tata Mobile and 40 Quintals of Illegal Khair Wood in Gharota Smuggling Crackdown

JAMMU, December 27, 2025 — In a major blow to timber smuggling syndicates, the Jammu (Rural) Police, in a joint operation with the Forest Department, successfully intercepted a vehicle illegally transporting a massive consignment of Khair wood in the Gharota area.

The seizure took place during the intervening night of December 26 and 27 at a specialized “naka” (checkpoint) established in the Amb region.During the routine operation, a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration number JK02AU-7431 was signaled to stop by the joint team. Upon noticing the heavy police and forest official presence, the driver attempted a high-speed escape and eventually managed to flee the scene under the cover of darkness.

However, the authorities successfully secured the abandoned vehicle. An intensive inspection revealed that the vehicle was loaded with Khair wood logs weighing approximately 30 to 40 quintals, intended for illegal commercial sale.The vehicle and the confiscated timber have been taken into police custody, with a formal report entered at the Gharota Police Station.

Following standard legal protocols, both the seized vehicle and the illegal wood have been handed over to the Forest Department for further investigation and prosecution under the relevant provisions of the Forest Act.

This operation underscores the heightened vigilance of the Jammu Rural Police in protecting natural resources and curbing environmental crimes in the region.
