Jammu (Rural) Police Arrest Drug Peddler with Heroin at Raipur Chowk; Scooty Seized
JAMMU, Feb 19: In a significant move under its ongoing anti-drug campaign, the Jammu (Rural) Police apprehended a drug peddler and recovered 8.01 grams of a heroin-like substance during a routine traffic interception at Raipur Chowk in the Chinore area.
A police team from Police Post Chinore signaled a scooty (registration No. JK08E-7316) traveling from the Bantalab side to stop for checking. Upon searching the rider, identified as Avinab Gupta—a resident of Kathua currently staying near the Sheesha Factory in Toph Sherkhania—officers discovered the illicit narcotics concealed in his possession.
Following the recovery, the police registered FIR No. 40/2026 at the Domana Police Station under Sections 8, 21, and 22 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused has been taken into custody, and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has been seized.
Investigators are currently working to trace the “forward and backward linkages” of the suspect to dismantle the larger drug supply chain operating within the region. This arrest marks another step in the Jammu Police’s commitment to making the area drug-free through vigilant patrolling and intelligence-led operations.
