Jammu Police Solve Residential Theft Using NAFIS Fingerprint Match; Gold Recovered
JAMMU, Feb 19: In a landmark achievement for tech-driven policing, the Jammu (Rural) Police successfully cracked a residential burglary case by leveraging the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) for the first time.
The investigation, led by Police Post Pounichak, began following a theft report filed under FIR No. 11/2026 at PS Domana. After securing the crime scene, a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team lifted “chance fingerprints” that were later uploaded to the national database.
The system yielded a definitive match for the suspect, Bhader Ali, a resident of Bantalab, marking a significant shift toward scientific criminal detection in the region.Upon his arrest, the accused confessed to the crime and revealed he had sold the stolen gold ornaments to a resident of Digiana named Bobby.
Acting on this lead, police conducted a targeted raid and successfully recovered two gold earrings from Bobby’s residence. Both individuals are currently in custody as authorities investigate their potential involvement in other local burglaries.
This successful recovery underscores the Jammu Police’s commitment to modernizing their investigative toolkit, proving that advanced forensic technology like NAFIS is a game-changer for solving property crimes and identifying repeat offenders.
