Jammu Police Review Border Security: SP South Meets Village Defence Guards to Counter Drone Threats

JAMMU, February 6, 2026 — Acting on the directives of SSP Jammu, the Superintendent of Police (SP) South Jammu conducted a high-level security review meeting with Village Defence Guards (VDGs) at Phallian Mandal to bolster the region’s defense grid.

The meeting specifically addressed the operational readiness of VDGs—who serve as the first line of defense along the International Border (IB)—in response to a history of drone-dropping incidents involving both weapons and narcotics. During the session, SP South, accompanied by the SDPO South and SHO Satwari, emphasized that the local knowledge and alertness of these guards remain vital for preventing inimical activities and maintaining peace in sensitive border pockets.

To enhance area domination from sunset to sunrise, a new tactical strategy was established where VDGs will now operate in small patrol groups, each including a member from the local police post. The SP directed that all patrol details be uploaded to a shared system involving the Indian Army and BSF to ensure seamless coordination and prevent any misidentification of checkpoints.

Furthermore, the SP physically inspected the weapons issued to the guards to ensure serviceability and provided instructions on safe handling and storage. Recalling the legacy of VDG members who have earned prestigious awards like the Shaurya Chakra, the SP motivated the current guards to uphold the highest traditions of bravery and selfless service while remaining vigilant against infiltration attempts and suspicious aerial movements.
