Jammu Police File Chargesheet in ₹3 Crore Fake Kashmir Blue Sapphire Fraud Case
JAMMU — January 30, 2026: In a significant breakthrough against high-value financial crime, the Jammu Police have formally filed a chargesheet against six individuals, including a serving Sub-Inspector of the J&K Police, for allegedly defrauding a Hyderabad-based businessman of ₹3 crore.
The elaborate scam involved the sale of counterfeit Kashmir Blue Sapphires, which the accused claimed were rare artifacts from the private treasure of a “Raja of Jammu.” The investigation, which began following the registration of FIR No. 347/2024 on December 15, 2024, at Police Station Bahu Fort, revealed a deep-rooted criminal conspiracy.
The accused individuals named in the chargesheet are Mohd Rayaz, son of Reham Ali of Rajouri; Mohd Taj Khan, son of Haji Jumma Khan of Poonch, who allegedly posed as the “Raja”; Showkat Hussain, son of Reham Ali of Rajouri; Mohd Shafi, son of Abdullah of Doda; Kulwinder Singh, son of Bachan Singh of Samba; and SI Mohd Maqbool Dugga, son of Ghulam Nabi of Srinagar.
The investigation was spearheaded by SDPO City West Jammu, Dr. Satish Bhardwaj (JKPS), under the direct supervision of SP South, Ajay Sharma (JKPS).
During the probe, police conducted multiple house searches which led to the seizure of several fake gemstones and forged documents from the possession of Mohd Taj Khan, Mohd Shafi, and SI Mohd Maqbool Dugga.
Demonstrating a proactive approach to victim-focused justice, the Jammu Police have already recovered and restored ₹62 lakh to the complainant, Mir Firasath Ali Khan.
Furthermore, the authorities have identified properties acquired by the accused using the proceeds of the crime and have filed an application before the Hon’ble Railway Court Jammu under Section 107 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) to attach these assets.
The complainant has expressed deep gratitude to the Jammu Police for their professional handling of the case and their commitment to ensuring the perpetrators are brought to justice.
