JAMMU, Feb 8: Authorities in Jammu have moved quickly to dispel public anxiety following reports of a gas leak in the Satwari area on Sunday.
The Jammu Police officially clarified that widespread rumors suggesting a major chemical emergency or mass hospitalizations are entirely baseless and misleading.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) South, Jammu, Ajay Sharma, confirmed that the incident was localized to a minor leak from a single cylinder stored inside a local scrap dealer’s shop.
According to officials, police teams identified and secured the source of the leakage immediately, ensuring there was no lingering threat to the neighborhood.> “People are advised not to pay heed to rumors.
There is nothing to worry about,” SSP Sharma stated, noting that no significant injuries or health emergencies occurred as a result of the minor mishap. Despite the low risk to public safety, the police are taking the lapse seriously.
An FIR has been registered against the proprietor of the scrap shop for criminal negligence and the improper handling of hazardous materials. A formal investigation is currently underway to ensure future compliance with safety protocols.
