Jammu Police Bust Notorious Interstate Luxury Car Theft Gang; 70 FIRs Linked to Kingpin

JAMMU March 05, 2026 :- In a major breakthrough against organized crime under ‘Operation AVTAAR’, the Jammu Police South Zone has successfully dismantled a high-profile interstate vehicle theft module specializing in the snatching and disposal of premium automobiles.

Following the recent recovery of 16 two-wheelers, the Gangyal Police Station intensified its crackdown, leading to the arrest of a notorious kingpin, Pawan Kumar of Haryana—who is reportedly linked to nearly 70 FIRs across India—and his local associate, Ramesh Singh of Jammu.

Preliminary intelligence suggests this sophisticated network may be responsible for the theft of approximately 1,000 vehicles over the last eight years.

The operation, executed by a dedicated team including PSI Rahul Kumar and ASI Sanjay Kumar under the supervision of SHO Insp Sanjeev Chib, involved extensive raids across North India, meticulous CCTV analysis, and advanced technical surveillance to track the gang’s cross-border movements.

The investigation revealed a highly organized modus operandi where the accused targeted high-end models, specifically the Mahindra Scorpio and other luxury cars, before systematically altering chassis numbers and swapping license plates to evade detection.

During the coordinated strike, police recovered four high-value vehicles worth an estimated ₹40 lakh, including a Mahindra Scorpio, Hyundai i20, Maruti Swift, and Chevrolet Beat, all found with tampered identification marks.

A formal case has been registered at PS Gangyal under FIR No. 13/2026 and Section 303(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

This successful intervention underscores the Jammu Police’s commitment to technology-driven policing and serves as a significant blow to interstate criminal syndicates operating within the region.
