Jammu Police Bust International Job Fraud Racket and Solve Major Theft Cases; ₹64 Lakh in Assets Recovered
Jammu March 27, 2026 — In a major strike against organized crime, the Jammu Police South Zone has dismantled a sophisticated criminal module involved in a “kidnap-and-extort” job fraud scheme and solved three high-value residential thefts.
Under the strategic direction of SSP Jammu, a dedicated task force led by SP South, along with teams from Gandhi Nagar, Bahu Fort, and Bagh-e-Bahu, successfully rescued two victims from captivity in Kolkata and arrested five primary suspects.
The operation led to the recovery of ₹34 lakh in extorted cash, while separate investigations into local burglaries resulted in the seizure of 1.2 kg of silver and 17 tolas of gold valued at approximately ₹30 lakh, marking a significant victory for public safety in the region.
The crackdown on the fraud racket began following a complaint at the Gandhi Nagar Police Station involving the wrongful confinement of two youth, Maninder Singh and Tushar Chib.
The victims had been lured to Kolkata by Jammu-based agents under the false pretext of securing overseas work visas, only to be held hostage for a ₹35 lakh ransom.
A specialized Jammu Police team tracked the suspects to a Kolkata hotel through technical surveillance and local coordination, successfully rescuing the victims on March 21. Investigations revealed a harrowing plot where the families had already paid ₹34 lakh, all of which has been recovered. Authorities are now working to identify the full network of agents involved in this cross-state conspiracy.
Simultaneously, the South Zone teams made a breakthrough in three major theft cases reported in the Bagh-e-Bahu and Bahu Fort areas. By analyzing CCTV footage and conducting forensic scene inspections, officers apprehended three habitual offenders.
In the Bagh-e-Bahu cases, police recovered gold ornaments worth ₹26.75 lakh, while the Narwal Police Post team recovered over a kilogram of silver and gold earrings in a separate residential burglary.
Following these successes, Jammu Police have issued a public advisory urging citizens to verify the credentials of all travel and employment agents before making payments and to enhance home security through CCTV installation and formal tenant verification.
