Jammu Police Bust Fake JMC Officer Racket: Two Fraudsters Arrested in Domana Impersonation Scam
JAMMU, Jan 29, 2026 — In a major breakthrough against organized fraud, the Jammu (Rural) Police at Domana Station successfully dismantled an impersonation syndicate by arresting two individuals who were posing as Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) officials to extort money from residents.
The suspects, identified as Mohd Shabiq and Mohd Zaffar, both residents of Upper Thather, Bantalab, allegedly targeted homeowners by making deceptive claims regarding municipal house construction approvals and documentation.
By misrepresenting their identities, the duo induced victims to transfer funds via cash and online transactions under the guise of processing official fees. Following a prompt verification with the JMC that confirmed the suspects had no official affiliation, a dedicated police team led by Inspector Varuneshwar Singh registered FIR No. 23/2026 under Sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The investigation led to the swift apprehension of the suspects within 48 hours and the recovery of stolen cash, while authorities continue to probe wider linkages of the racket and urge the public to verify government credentials before making any financial commitments.
