Jammu Police Arrest Youth for Assaulting Police Officer Following Viral Video Incident
JAMMU, Feb 21: The Jammu Police South Zone has taken swift legal action following the emergence of a viral video showing an assault on a uniformed officer.
The incident, which occurred on February 20, 2026, involved a youth later identified as Sumit Verma, a resident of Kathua currently staying in Trikuta Nagar.
According to a formal complaint lodged by SI Rajesh Kumar, the accused approached the officer while he was on duty at Trikuta Nagar Park and subjected him to unparliamentary language and physical intimidation.
Despite being aware of the officer’s official status, the individual allegedly physically assaulted him and issued threats, an act that was captured and widely shared across social media platforms.
Following the complaint, the Bahu Fort Police Station registered FIR No. 52/2026 under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty and wrongful restraint.
Utilizing a combination of technical intelligence and human tracking, police successfully apprehended the accused within 24 hours. The Jammu Police have issued a stern warning that any attempt to obstruct or intimidate public servants performing their lawful duties will be met with the strictest legal consequences.
The investigation remains active to establish a full timeline of events, emphasizing that such behavior undermines public order and the authority of law enforcement.
