Jammu Police Arrest Drug Peddler in Nagrota; Heroin Recovered During Anti-Narcotics Drive
JAMMU | January 8, 2026 As part of an ongoing and intensified crackdown on narcotics, the Jammu (Rural) Police successfully intercepted a drug trafficking attempt in the Nagrota area on January 6.
During a routine checkpoint operation established near the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) in Jagti Colony, a police team signaled a motorcycle without a registration plate to stop. The vehicle, coming from the NHW-44 side, carried two individuals who exhibited suspicious behavior upon being questioned by the authorities.
The suspects were identified as Fareed, a resident of Phallian Mandal, and Younis Alam, originally from Bihar and currently residing in Jammu. During the encounter, the rider, Fareed, managed to flee the scene despite a pursuit by the police. However, a personal search of the pillion rider, Younis Alam, led to the recovery of a small transparent packet containing 7.3 grams of a heroin-like substance.
Subsequent questioning revealed that both individuals were allegedly part of a criminal conspiracy to transport and sell the contraband to local youth using the unregistered motorcycle.
Following the recovery, the Nagrota Police Station registered FIR No. 03/2026 under Sections 8, 21, 22, and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. While Younis Alam is currently in custody, a manhunt has been launched to apprehend the absconding rider.
Police officials stated that further investigations are underway to dismantle the broader supply network and identify other associates involved in the illicit drug trade in the region.
