JAMMU — February 09, 2026:- In a major push to improve the city’s hygiene standards and safeguard public health, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) executed a large-scale demolition drive targeting unhygienic slum structures across multiple urban sectors on Monday.
Under the direct orders of JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, the operation was spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner (North) Sanjay Badyal and a dedicated enforcement team.
The drive specifically targeted unauthorized settlements that lacked basic sanitation facilities, focusing on high-traffic areas including the vicinity of Jaggi Darbar in Paloura, Lower Roopnagar, and Subhash Nagar.
By the end of the operation, approximately 100 structures were cleared, removing what officials described as a significant threat to the environmental hygiene and overall urban sanitation of Jammu.
Municipal officials highlighted that these unsanitary constructions not only violated established building norms but also posed a direct challenge to the city’s goals under the Open Defecation Free (ODF) framework. Unauthorized settlements often lead to the degradation of local sanitation standards, making it difficult for the corporation to maintain cleanliness in residential zones.
JMC representatives stated that this drive is part of a broader, sustained effort to curb the mushrooming of unhygienic structures that hamper public health initiatives. The corporation warned that similar enforcement actions would continue throughout the city to ensure strict compliance with sanitation regulations and to maintain Jammu’s status as a clean and healthy urban center.
Reaffirming its commitment to a healthy and ODF-compliant city, the JMC has urged the general public to cooperate with municipal authorities. The administration emphasized that adhering to sanitation norms is essential for the collective well-being of all residents.
As the city continues to modernize, the JMC remains focused on eliminating unauthorized and unsanitary pockets that jeopardize its long-term health and environmental targets.
