JAMMU, February 11, 2026 — Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Wednesday that a total of 12,36,507 smart meters have been successfully installed across the Union Territory.
Responding to a written query from PDP MLA Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, the Chief Minister detailed that the installation process is being carried out by multiple agencies under centrally sponsored initiatives, including the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) and the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS).
Additionally, 1,600 smart feeder meters have been deployed on 11 KV feeders across the ten districts of the Jammu division to enhance power distribution monitoring.
The district-wise breakdown reveals that the Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) has installed 6,27,492 meters, with the highest concentration in Jammu district at 3,04,468 units. Other districts in the Jammu division, including Samba, Udhampur, Kathua, and Rajouri, have also seen significant progress. Meanwhile, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has overseen the installation of 6,09,015 meters in the Kashmir division, led by Srinagar with 2,39,147 units and followed by districts such as Baramulla and Anantnag.
The Chief Minister clarified that these meters are not unique to the region but adhere to the strict technical specifications and standardized designs set by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) and the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), ensuring they meet the same high national standards utilized across India.
