Jammu division braces for moderate to heavy rains; flash flood, landslide alert issued till September 2

Srinagar 29 August :- The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a significant weather advisory, forecasting a period of sustained rainfall for the Jammu division starting from Friday, August 30, and extending through Monday, September 2.

According to the forecast, the region is likely to experience scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout this four-day period, with several districts expected to be hit by bouts of moderate to heavy rain and thundershowers.

While Jammu prepares for substantial precipitation, the Kashmir division is anticipated to see considerably milder weather, characterized only by occasional light drizzling. The MeT department has raised serious concerns about potential weather-induced hazards, including flash floods in low-lying areas, landslides, mudslides, and dislodgement of shooting stones, particularly at vulnerable spots in Jammu.

The advisory specifically highlights the heightened risk window from the early morning of August 30 until the late night of September 1 or early morning of September 2. In light of these warnings, authorities are urgently advising the public to exercise extreme caution, refrain from unnecessary travel, and strictly avoid venturing near rivers, nallahs, embankments, and unstable or loose structures to prevent any untoward incidents.
