JAMMU, DECEMBER 26: In a vibrant push to foster youth engagement and cultural preservation, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, graced the landmark open mic event “Dastaan-e-Mic” held at the historic Bahu Plaza. Organized by the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), the event served as a first-of-its-kind platform designed to provide the region’s youth with a stage for authentic storytelling, music, and poetry.
While addressing the gathering, the Divisional Commissioner lauded the YSS for this innovative initiative, emphasizing that such platforms are essential for building confidence and ensuring that the diverse perspectives of J&K’s youth are heard and celebrated.
During his keynote address, Ramesh Kumar exhorted the younger generation to channel their vibrant energy toward sports, literary pursuits, and the performing arts. He underscored that active participation in creative and physical activities is a vital deterrent against social evils, inspiring youth to lead healthy, purpose-driven lives.
To further this mission, the Commissioner directed that similar youth engagement programs be expanded to the district levels to promote local heritage, folk traditions, and regional languages among the youth across the Union Territory.The event featured a rich tapestry of performances in Dogri, Urdu, and English, showcasing the immense talent of local artists.
From the evocative poetry of Akhil Brahmanu and Kriti Malhotra to the spellbinding storytelling of Mukhtar Ahmed Madni and the rhythmic fusion of rap by G One, the stage resonated with personal introspection and social commentary.
The Director General of YSS reaffirmed the department’s commitment to “listening” to the youth, concluding the event by honoring participants with trophies and certificates in the presence of senior officials, students, and a spirited local audience.
