Jammu and Kashmir Weather Forecast: Light Snow and Rain Predicted for New Year as Fog Persists in Jammu Plains
SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 24, 2025: The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh weather update for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a shift in climatic conditions as the year draws to a close. From December 24 to December 29, the region is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with generally dry weather.
However, a localized weather disturbance is anticipated between December 30 and January 1, bringing the possibility of light rain in the plains and light snowfall over the higher reaches at scattered locations. This New Year’s Eve precipitation is expected to be followed by another spell of partly to generally cloudy weather from January 2 to January 5, offering a cold start to the first week of 2026.
In the Jammu Division, authorities have cautioned residents about the continued prevalence of moderate to dense fog over the plains during the next four days. This persistent fog layer is likely to impact morning and evening visibility, potentially causing delays in surface and air transport. Travelers and commuters are advised to exercise caution on the highways.
While the higher reaches prepare for a light dusting of snow during the transition into the New Year, the overall weather pattern across the Union Territory remains characterized by typical winter chill, with the fog significantly affecting the diurnal temperatures in the southern districts of the division.
