SRINAGAR, DECEMBER 29: Jammu and Kashmir is set for a shift in weather patterns as a fresh Western Disturbance (WD) is expected to influence the region over the coming days. According to the latest seven-day forecast, today will remain mostly dry and cloudy, with only a slight possibility of very light snow along the Zojila-Drass axis. However, the weather is expected to intensify on December 30, as the approaching WD brings light to moderate snowfall across the Kashmir Valley, with peak activity predicted between Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.
While computer models show limited support for heavy accumulation in the lowlands, there remains a 40% chance of light snow reaching the plains if precipitation persists through the night. The transition into the New Year on December 31 and January 01 will likely see mostly cloudy conditions prevailing across the Union Territory, accompanied by light to moderate rain and snow showers.
Although the current weather system appears relatively weak, a significant dip in temperatures compared to previous weeks is expected to improve the chances of snowfall in select plain areas. Forecasters are closely monitoring these developments, though heavy snow accumulation in the valleys remains unlikely at this stage.
Following this brief wintry spell, a period of stable and dry weather is predicted to return from January 02 through January 05, providing a clear start to the first week of the year.
