Jammu and Kashmir Weather Alert: Strong Western Disturbance to Bring Heavy Rain and Snowfall
SRINAGAR 03 April :- A powerful Western Disturbance is forecasted to sweep across Jammu and Kashmir over the next 36 hours, triggering a significant wet spell across the Union Territory.
Weather experts predict widespread moderate to heavy rain showers, which may be accompanied by intense windstorms, thundershowers, and isolated hailstorms in certain pockets.
Due to the intensity of the system, authorities have warned that vulnerable locations are at an increased risk of flash floods, urging residents and travelers to remain vigilant during this period.
The change in weather will also bring a fresh layer of snow to the region’s higher reaches and critical mountain passes. Popular routes and high-altitude areas, including Zojila, Sinthan Top, Mughal Road, Sadhna Top, and Razdan Top, are expected to witness significant snowfall.
While the primary impact will be at higher elevations, forecasters haven’t completely ruled out the possibility of light snow over middle elevations ranging between 2,100 and 2,400 meters.
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to stabilize toward the end of the week. Conditions should gradually improve by Sunday, although a few isolated areas may still experience brief, lingering showers.
Travelers planning to navigate mountain passes are advised to check road statuses frequently, as the combination of heavy rain and snow may lead to temporary disruptions in connectivity across the valley.
